Mission complete! Wow, what a weekend. Over 160 players made it down to our new venue in Aspendale Gardens. I think we're in love.
A big thank you to everyone that came down to support us, some travelling over 4 hours to get there! Even though there were multiple events on this weekend, we still hit record attendance.
As always, we appreciate the great support we receive from our sponsors. PLE Computers were set up on the stage with great discounts, running competitions and providing awesome prizes. SteelSeries not only helped provide great discounts through PLE Computers, but also provided high quality gaming peripherals as prizes for the DotA 2 competition. GIGABYTE provided 3 gaming motherboards for SMITE and loaned us BRIX to use. Last, but not least Plantronics Gaming provided 15 headsets for the CS:GO competition, which had 10 teams enter!
Who saw the overclockers? It was great to see both the CPU and GPU overclocking attempts. Thanks to the team at team.au for supporting our event (hope to see you again!). Thanks to Rankonius for coming down to shoutcast and doing a lot of work behind the scene. Also, a shoutout to Jesepi and his team for all the effort that went into the Minecraft obstacle course. Thanks to Red Bull for providing us with much needed wings late afternoon.
Also a big thank you to all the volunteers that helped set up and pack up the event, we simply couldn't have done it without you. You guys rock.
Unfortunately after both Plan A and Plan B failed (seriously - we had two options for satisfactory internet!), An ad-hoc plan was developed involving numerous personal 4G sticks and required us to open the otherwise dedicated link for game traffic to Steam and other general traffic that were preventing all our other steam-based competitions from running. This resulted in us having to postpone the tournament until a date to be announced. We are once again devastated and sincerely apologise for the inconveniences we have caused - especially to those who travel long distances to attend. You can be absolutely certain that we will investigate why the first two plans failed in full detail but will most certainly result in - going forward if we still have Aspendale Gardens available to us - investigate a permanent internet solution at the venue.
This does mean that for the time being, League of Legends tournaments will be put on hold at our larger events until we can absolutely guarantee that a permanent solution is not only installed, but tested under load. We will be providing details as soon as we know more on the progress for this.
We hope that under the cloud that has been a disastrous internet situation, that you are seeing that our events are still in the right direction particularly around choice of venues and locations, as well as the little things that go unnoticed like pre-rolling Ethernet cables and power boards to 200 seats so that you guys don't have to contend with switches and other players PCs just to find a slot on a switch or create spaghetti power board situations.
All going well, you'll likely see our next event on July 11th to 12th 2015. We're processing all the photos now, so they will be uploaded shortly. Hope everyone is able to catch up on much needed rest and look forward to seeing you in July.
